Hello again

  • Jul. 16th, 2009 at 7:37 PM
Hello! I was a member year, oh, probably a good year or two ago but lagged on livejournal. Just wanted to say hello again. I'm Katherine, and I have a havana/dwarf mix rabbit named Maxmillion. I've had him since I was in the 8th grade (I am 22 now).. so we have been together for a pretty long time, haha. Surprisingly he is still extremely healthy for his age. His favorite hobbies are chewing on my things and sitting in front of the fan.

Here are some pictures... )

MemcacheD Update

  • Jul. 16th, 2009 at 2:17 PM
Just wanted to let everyone know, that a new version of MemcacheD has been released. We will be rolling this out to the memcache nodes during the week of July 20th to 24th. This should have very little impact on the stability of the website; however users may see a slight increase in load times as the cache is re-populated with entries.

The software has been tested and verified to be working just fine with the application; so we perceive this to be a very minimal risk in regards to updating, and the stability of the website.

Thanks...

fostering an un-neutered male

  • Jul. 16th, 2009 at 3:13 PM
sorry to be posting so much! things have gone from zero to 60 in bunny land. in response to the posts i made yesterday, i also took in my first foster. he's a cute white and brown bun named peyton. he's in a small cage in my room, opposite of bean's cage. bean is a spayed female.

he's un-neutered, which has already posed a pain. i let him out for a little bit, and he checked out my room, rubbing himself on everything. he came up to bean's cage, and they nosed each other and he rubbed his chin all over her cage.... he rubs everything lol! then he decided to do a 360 in the air and spray me, bean's cage and my carpet with urine and cecals D: i knew marking was to be expected but oi! i put him back in his cage and cleaned up the mess quickly with vinegar.

i have another bunny-proofed room i use for playtime that has crappy, textured tile floor, so spills are easier to clean up and the buns don't slip and slide... peyton will get to play in there for the time being. i will be contacting the rescue manager to see about getting peyton fixed as soon as possible.

in the meantime, for those of you who have dealt with un-neutered males and spraying, do you have any advice?

here's the cutie in question, mr peyton

brushing/grooming

  • Jul. 16th, 2009 at 1:19 PM
I have a question about brushing. I have a female lionhead. Her name is bunnicula and shes super fluffy. She really hates when I brush her and I would like to know some ideas so make her more comfortable with it or hate it less or something. I guess my question is, could someone here just tell me what they do when they brush their bunny.or if there is something that you do that your bunny likes that will help your bunny to relax.

and the bunny...

Custom frankieDARLING Blythe

  • Jul. 16th, 2009 at 8:50 AM
I have to let this girl go, thought I would post here to see if any of you guys are interested.

Asking $250 (nude, but can send her with the Paul Frank shirt, it's torn by the shoulder)
Free shipping in USA, $15 outside USA

Work Done:

lip carve, freckles added, lips glossed to natural, new eyeshadow on lids and around eyes, new chips (pink, clear and mustard), new pink pull ring and cord, sleep eyes given, eyelashes removed, sand matted and sealed with MSC, dyed hair (deep cyan blue/green). All work doen by frankieDARLING.

Only issues is that her pull ring isn't working at the moment and her eyes need to be changed manually. This can be fixed easy, just haven't opened her up yet since I got her home. Also, she has light staining on her right and left sides of her head due to the dyed hair, it can too probably be removed as well.

Pleas ingore tpyos. Answers under cut at the end of the post.

Anyway, yes, thanks to Tim, today I managed to find the Japan Centre, where I got some Kirin Milk Tea and some Pocky and an eel/udon bento box and some miso soup for my lunch. I wanted to pick up some umeboshi plums, but I couldn't find them before my social anxiety overwhelmed me and I had to flee the shop. Still, I got the rest, and now I know where the Centre is, so perhaps I can go back at a less busy time (say, not lunchtime).

I also came to the realization that it's possibly not crowds that bother me, but instead noise. I worked this out while walking down the sidewalk where there were very few people but an awful lot of jackhammer noise coming from a building side, and that really raised my anxiety levels. After I passed the building site, I was in a much more crowded situation, but the noise levels were lower and I didn't feel quite so bad. Then, in the Japan Centre, the noise increased as more people came in, but I was at the back of the shop so the crowd wasn't really directly affecting me as much as the noise was.

I also startle extremely easily--some sudden noises make me jump and make my heart pound when it appears nobody else around me notices them.

Anyway.

I know you can sand down a blythe eye chip to fit a Pullip eye mech, but-
Could you modify the eye mech hole to fit a blythe eye chip? just curious.
Would it look weird?

I've had my bunny, Butter, for a few months now.
I got her the day before Easter (I wasnt even thinking about the timing, I just happened to have enough money to buy all the supplies that day, lol), so I'm assuming Butter is around 5 months old.
I've had experience with rabbits in the past, my mother has a few and breeds them occasionally, but not very much seeing as how they werent really "mine" to take care of.
When I got Butter, I assumed she was female because I didnt notice any obvious male genitalia.
I've thought of her and treated her as a girl since the day I brought her home.

Well, today my roommate decides she's ready to have a pet of her own.
And after falling in love with Butter, she decides she wants a rabbit, too.
The woman at the pet store tells us the bunny is a girl and we're both extremely excited that neither one of us has to worry about our bunnies getting pregnant or constantly humping each other.

Boy, were we wrong!

As soon as Peanut, the new bunny, walks through the door Butter is humping her like crazy!
I pick Butter up off the poor thing and notice at few things I never saw before.
Apparently my sweet little girl is really a sweet little boy!

I'm pretty much in shock. I dont love Butter any less, but it's funny to think of all the times I called him a "pretty girl" and considered putting bows in his hair. It's also really hard transitioning from calling Butter a "her" to a "him".

So now I guess I have to decide when and whether or not to get him neutered.
Does anyone know if pet healthcare plans cover this?
And if so, about how much are they monthly and what are some good places I could look at to get one?

PS: I dont have any new pictures of Peanut or Butter (hoping I will soon, though), but here is a picture of Butter when I first brough him/her home. He's grown so much since then! : )

Wide shut to the possibilities...

Via Jenny Davidson, a salutary warning from the Indy about the dangers of not doing a background check when hiring out your stately home for the night:

Last weekend, employees at the 17th-century manor house, which is accustomed to hosting corporate dos and chocolate-box weddings for well-heeled clients, were left speechless when 350 masked guests stripped off at the stroke of midnight and engaged in group sex of bacchanalian proportions.

According to those who witnessed the spectacle, security guards gave up trying to persuade copulating couples to go to their rooms because almost every guest at the party was "otherwise engaged" with a fellow reveller.

How embarrassing...

The defence rests...

In response to Marcel Berlins' complaint that modern barristers are boring, two lawyers have written to the Guardian with a couple of memories that prove that not all QCs are dull:

When representing a man charged with masturbating a dolphin, Tony had adduced evidence that the aquatic mammal sometimes uses its sexual organ as a foraging tool. In closing, he reminded the jury that "You don't often see a man pushing his trolley round Tesco's with his penis, do you?". Unable to disagree, they duly acquitted.

Blimey...
